These ski boots are not softened performance boots. The Tecnica Firebird R 130 uses a 96 mm ELV last, flex 130, PU race shell and Race Dept. lace-up liner – exactly the ingredients that matter in alpine racing when direct hold and power transfer are the priority. For hard-snow training, aggressive short turns and precise pressure on the ski, it delivers far more race character than a conventional low-volume piste boot.
Technical Race Setup
Race Performance
The narrow last reduces unnecessary internal volume and gives the ski a more immediate response.
PU provides solid, defined feedback and remains a proven material for powerful race-oriented skiing.
The very thin leather liner with laces improves sensitivity and fit for more direct power transmission.
Four micro-adjustable World Cup buckles allow precise closure and race-oriented serviceability.
The elastic WC strap stabilises the upper cuff and supports progressive pressure build-up.
The 12.5° forward lean can be increased by 2° or 3.5° to tune stance and race setup.
SF Sports Buying Advice
We recommend this boot only to skiers who deliberately want a close race fit. Choosing 96 mm simply because it sounds sporty is a mistake. Heel, instep, forefoot and ankle shape must match the shell or be professionally adjusted.
It is particularly interesting for racers, Masters, coaches and technically strong skiers who find a 98 mm Mach1 too roomy but a 93 mm World Cup plug too uncompromising for training and everyday use.
Comparison
Both are flex 130, but they are different tools. The Firebird R 130 is narrower at 96 mm, heavier and more traditionally race-oriented. The Mach1 LV 130 is 98 mm, lighter and uses GripWalk. Choose Firebird for maximum precision and race feel; choose Mach1 when high performance must coexist with more everyday versatility.
Bootfitting
With a 96 mm ELV shell, do not solve pressure points simply by buying the boot too large. Start with a proper shell check and then create space only where necessary. Toe box, sixth toe, ankles and instep deserve particular attention. The Race Dept. liner is heat mouldable to make break-in easier.
FAQ
Experts, racers, Masters and highly athletic skiers with narrow feet who want a precise 96 mm race fit.
It is clearly race-oriented and inspired by World Cup equipment. At 96 mm ELV it sits between high-performance piste boots and even tighter 93 mm World Cup plug boots.
Yes. The close fit, Race Dept. liner and stable PU construction are particularly valuable there.
It sits close to the foot, improves sensitivity and supports direct power transfer. It is also heat mouldable.
Do not choose by street-shoe size. Mondopoint, shell length, foot width, instep and heel shape must be assessed together.
Usually not. A 96 mm ELV last is very narrow. Higher-volume feet generally need a different shell.
More race precision, a stable PU construction, thin Race Dept. liner, screwed WC buckles and a much more direct setup.
SF Sports
We assess skiing level, training use, stance and desired power transfer – not only flex and size.
A 96 mm shell must fit precisely. Shell checks and targeted modifications are critical.
WC buckles, lace-up liners, spoilers and stiff PU shells are normal parts of race setups.
If a Mach1 LV 130 or Firebird R 110 is the better choice, we say so.
Boot, footbed, sock, forward lean and binding position all influence skiing feel.
Race boots often need fine tuning after initial training days. Professional follow-up is valuable.
