Who is it for?

Race ski service for athletes, parents, coaches and ambitious skiers

A race ski needs more than a standard ski service. Edge, base, structure, sidewall, stand height and wax must match the skier, discipline and use case.

Our race service is designed for racers, junior athletes, Masters, ski clubs, coaches, parents of young racers and performance-oriented skiers who do not want to leave their material to chance.

Race ski performance and race service at SF Sports

Why race service?

More grip, more speed and more trust in the ski

Race service is not about making a ski look good. The goal is a setup that feels noticeably more precise, faster and more controlled on snow.

More edge grip

Precisely prepared side and base edges provide direct hold on hard, icy and grippy slopes.

More speed

A cleanly prepared base with the right structure and wax finish noticeably improves glide.

More control

The ski reacts more accurately, calmly and directly – especially at high speed and on demanding courses.

More consistency

Reproducible structures and clearly documented tuning help you develop your setup in a controlled way.

Difference

Standard ski service or race service?

A classic ski service brings skis into a very good everyday condition. Race service goes further: more precise preparation, performance edge angles, sidewall work and race-oriented base structure.

Classic ski service

  • for recreational skiers and normal piste use
  • edge sharpening, base structuring and waxing
  • a strong all-round condition for holidays and everyday skiing
  • useful when edges are dull or the base is dry

Process

How your race service at SF Sports works

Race service is precision work. We first inspect your ski, then prepare base, sidewall and edge cleanly and match structure and finish to your use case.

Race ski service step 1 at SF Sports01

Inspect the ski

We check whether the ski is flat, how the base edge is set and which service scope is really required.

Race ski service step 2 at SF Sports02

Base repair

Scratches, grooves and smaller damage are repaired cleanly so the base is closed and even again.

Race ski service step 3 at SF Sports03

Prepare the sidewall

The sidewall is professionally set back so the side edge can be worked precisely along the full ski length.

Race ski service step 4 at SF Sports04

Pre-grind and flatten

The ski is prepared and flattened accurately before structure and edge work.

Race ski service step 5 at SF Sports05

Race NC structure grind

On request, your ski receives a particularly precise and reproducible structure on the Wintersteiger Race NC.

Race ski service step 6 at SF Sports06

Wax & race finish

Finally, the ski is waxed, brushed and, on request, prepared race-ready for snow and discipline.

Wintersteiger Race NC

Race NC is one of your biggest advantages in race service

In racing, base structure strongly influences how freely the ski runs, how stable it feels and how well it matches discipline and snow. This is exactly where the Wintersteiger Race NC shows its strength.

Race NC grinds are especially precise and reproducible. This allows you to compare, document and develop your setup more effectively – a major advantage for racers, coaches and ambitious skiers.

Edge angles

Edge angles for race skis – reference values by age and discipline

The right edge angle depends on skier, discipline, ski, snow and the desired handling. The following values are reference points – the final setup is always individual.

Use caseBase edge referenceSide edge referenceCharacter
Children0.7°–1.0°usually 88°–87°controllable, less aggressive
Juniors / U16 athletes0.5°–0.7°usually 87°sporty grip, still manageable
Slalom0.2°–0.5°usually 87°–86°direct, aggressive, very precise
Giant slalom0.4°–0.7°usually 87°–86°stable, grippy, controlled
Super-G0.7°–1.0°usually 87°–86°calmer running at higher speed
Downhill0.7°–1.2°usually 86°–85°speed, stability, less aggressive turn-in

Our standard recommendation for technical disciplines

For slalom and giant slalom, we often work with 0.5° on the base side and 87° on the side edge. On request, we adjust the angles individually to skier, ski, discipline and use case.

Race finish

Waxing, brushing and finish at competition level

A fast race ski is not created by edges and structure alone. The wax finish also has to be built up, scraped and brushed correctly.

For the race finish, we match the wax to discipline and conditions. The base is then brushed carefully so the structure runs free and the ski can glide at maximum efficiency on snow.
