Ski service
Questions about ski service
Why should I service my skis regularly?
Regular ski service improves edge grip, control, turn initiation and glide. On hard or icy slopes, a cleanly prepared ski makes a major difference for safety, feel and enjoyment.
How often should ski service be done?
That depends on snow conditions, skiing style and expectations. On hard slopes, edges wear faster. Sporty skiers should service skis more often than occasional skiers.
Do I need an appointment for ski service?
For classic ski service, an appointment is usually not necessary. You can drop off your skis during opening hours. For bootfitting and special advice, please book an appointment.
How long does ski service take?
Ski service usually takes a few working days. During busy periods it can take longer. If you need your skis back by a specific date, tell us when you drop them off.
Do you also service snowboards?
Yes, snowboards can also be dropped off for service. Depending on condition, width and effort, the work may differ from ski service.
Race service
Questions about race service
Who benefits from race service?
Race service is worthwhile for racers, junior athletes, Masters, clubs and ambitious skiers who want more grip, speed, control and a more precisely tuned setup.
What is the difference between race service and normal ski service?
Race service tunes the ski more precisely to the skier, discipline, use, edge angle, structure, sidewall and finish. It is about performance and reproducibility, not only maintenance.
Can ambitious recreational skiers use race service?
Yes. Race service is not only for squad athletes. Sporty skiers who want more grip and precision on hard pistes can benefit as well.
What should I include in a race service request?
Helpful information includes skier, discipline, ability level, intended use, ski model, desired edge angle, current setup and when the ski is needed again.
Bootfitting
Questions about bootfitting and ski boot adjustment
What does bootfitting mean?
Bootfitting means adjusting ski boots individually to the foot, skiing style and intended use. It can include foot analysis, shell choice, insoles, shell modification, liner adjustment and race setup.
Who is bootfitting useful for?
Bootfitting is useful for anyone who wants better heel hold, fewer pressure points, more comfort or more direct power transmission in the ski boot.
Do I need an appointment for bootfitting?
Yes. Bootfitting only makes sense with an appointment, because foot analysis, advice and adjustment require enough time.
Can SF Sports also adjust boots bought elsewhere?
Yes. Existing ski boots or boots not bought from SF Sports can be checked and adjusted if a technical and sensible improvement is possible.
Binding adjustment
Questions about binding adjustment and binding checks
Why is binding adjustment important?
The binding is safety-relevant. Release values depend on body data, sole length, ability and binding condition, so the binding should be checked and set correctly.
What do I need to bring for binding adjustment?
Bring the skis, both ski boots and the skier's body data: height, weight, age and skiing ability.
Should the binding be checked every year?
For children and juniors, yearly checks are especially important because weight, height and ability change quickly. Adults should also have bindings checked regularly.
Workshop & technology
Questions about machines, V-Edge and Race NC
Which machines does SF Sports use?
SF Sports works with professional workshop technology including Wintersteiger Jupiter, V-Edge, Race NC, Basejet and equipment for binding adjustment and bootfitting.
What is V-Edge?
V-Edge is a Wintersteiger edge technology that allows the edge tune to be adjusted more variably to handling and use.
What is Race NC?
Race NC is used in race service for precise and reproducible structures, allowing the base structure to be tuned to discipline, snow, use and skier.
What makes the SF Sports workshop different?
SF Sports combines modern workshop technology, race-service experience, bootfitting, material understanding and quality control. The complete setup is considered, not just the ski.
