POC M’s VPD Air Vest
POC M’s VPD Air Vest is designed for skiers who want back protection as an integral part of their equipment. Alongside protection level, the key buying consideration is whether the panel stays where it should during movement. A vest that is too long or loose is not a good choice, even if its clothing size seems right.
Technical specifications at a glance
Understand protection levels and choose accordingly
Certification describes a defined impact-attenuation test. Level 1 offers tested back protection; if you specifically want level 2, compare the Max versions. No vest can prevent injury in every fall. Choose protection level and cut together.
Mobility in your actual skiing position
VPD is designed to combine mobility and impact attenuation. Check in front of a mirror and in a tuck whether the vest rides up or the panel hits your helmet or waistband. Raise your arms and rotate your upper body too. A comfortable standing fit alone does not represent a day’s skiing.
Consider ventilation and layering together
A ventilated vest can release heat only if the layers above allow it. Wear your base layer and intended jacket or race suit when trying it on. Several thick layers underneath can alter the protector’s fit. Heat management matters just as much as your first impression of the padding.
Who is POC M’s VPD Air Vest right for?
Choose the Air if freedom of movement and ventilation are priorities and level 1 suits your use. Between two sizes, the correct back length is decisive—not a desire for extra room. Consider height, torso length and the manufacturer’s size chart together.
Use & selection
Fitting: Put it on over the intended thin base layer, fasten the closures and test all typical skiing movements. The panel must cover the intended back area without being pushed upward when you bend.
Everyday use: Check fit and condition before use. After a heavy impact, follow the manufacturer’s guidance on continued use; do not ignore visible damage or loose seams.
Care: Follow the care label on your specific vest. Do not cut foam sections, heat them or apply adhesive yourself to change the fit.

Questions before you buy
What protection level does the vest have?
This version is certified to EN 1621-2 level 1.
What is the difference between Air and Max?
Air is the level-1 version focused on mobility and ventilation. Max offers level 2. The Race version additionally has a construction specific to racing.
Which size fits?
Use the current POC size chart and your torso length. In a tuck, the panel must neither ride up nor hit your helmet.
Can I wear it under a race suit?
Test the actual combination. Especially with tight suits, there must be enough space for the protector and movement.
Does it fully protect the chest and ribs too?
This is a back-protector vest. It does not imply full chest or all-round protection.
Can I buy a larger size to grow into?
Not if that makes the back panel sit incorrectly or shift. Current fit is decisive with protective equipment.
What should I check after a heavy fall?
Inspect the vest and protector and follow the manufacturer’s instructions on continued use. If damaged or in doubt, have it checked before using it again.
