Hestra GSL Race Comp – 3 Finger Black/White
When you train in gates, your glove has two jobs: controlling the pole securely and protecting your hand from cold and repeated contact. The Hestra GSL Race Comp – 3 Finger uses a substantial leather construction with padding for this. Its three-finger design is particularly interesting if a conventional finger glove feels too cold but you want more dexterity than a mitten offers.
Technical specifications at a glance
Three-finger design with a separate index finger
The separate index finger allows a more differentiated grip. The middle, ring and little fingers share the outer chamber, while a five-finger lining sits inside. Do not just check the shell length: close your hand around your pole grip several times. Your fingers should not press against the ends.
Reinforcement for training contact
Padded areas on the back of the hand and thumb, together with abrasion-resistant reinforcements, are designed for racing use. They do not make the glove impervious to sharp ski edges. For slalom training, matching it with a suitable pole-mounted hand guard remains sensible; a thick glove does not replace a correctly fitted guard.
Warmth depends on the right size
G-Loft and the brushed lining trap insulating air inside the glove. A size that is too tight compresses this layer and can become uncomfortable, especially when gripping firmly. Excess length, on the other hand, reduces grip feel. Measure both hands and test the larger one with your intended pole.
Who is Hestra GSL Race Comp – 3 Finger Black/White right for?
Choose the GSL Race Comp if you train regularly and want a durable, warm race glove. Pay particular attention to thumb mobility, index-finger length and the transition to your sleeve. Size 5 belongs to the same model and is not automatically a separate junior construction.
Use & selection
Trying on: Fully open the wrist fastening, put the glove on without forcing it and grip a pole. Your thumb should move freely; the palm should not become taut when you make a fist. Also test how you operate your pole strap.
Moisture and care: Impregnated leather is not a waterproof membrane. Bear this in mind for prolonged wet snow. Dry the gloves at room temperature and care for the leather according to Hestra’s instructions; direct radiator heat can damage it.
During training: Regularly inspect seams and heavily used contact areas. On long, wet training days, a second dry pair is often more useful than tightening the glove further.

Questions before you buy
Is the glove waterproof?
It has no waterproof membrane. The impregnated leather offers weather protection but does not guarantee permanently dry hands in prolonged wet conditions.
How are the fingers arranged inside?
The outer three-finger shape contains a five-finger lining. Each finger has its own compartment inside.
Is size 5 a junior glove?
It is the small size of the same GSL Race Comp. Hand measurements and fit matter, not age alone.
Can I use a Trigger pole?
Check the connection using the strap supplied for your pole. An integrated Trigger connection is not claimed for this model here.
How snug should it be?
Snug enough for a secure grip, with sufficient room at the fingertips. Your fingers and thumb must not be squeezed when gripping the pole.
Does it replace a slalom hand guard?
No. Gloves and pole guards serve different purposes and need to fit together.
How should I dry the leather?
Slowly at room temperature, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Avoid direct radiator or stove heat; use a suitable leather-care product afterwards if needed.
